In May, 3,000 azaleas of about 70 varieties, which have been planted since the time of Baron Iwasaki's villa, bloom beautifully as if they were covered with a carpet, filling the garden. Using the undulations of the terrain, large and small azalea stocks called "ball tailoring" are planted to run up toward Mt. Fuji and flow toward Lake Ashi, just like a painting. Also, before and after the azaleas bloom, the rhododendrons planted by Baron Iwasaki with the azaleas compete for their gorgeousness in the rhododendron garden at the back of the garden. Following azaleas and rhododendrons, hydrangea is in full bloom from mid to late June, and the rose garden in front of the chapel is wrapped in the sweet scent of roses, which is in full bloom twice a year in June and October. The garden road is paved so that it is easy to walk, and a slope is provided on the slope so that wheelchairs and elderly people can enjoy a walk smoothly and with peace of mind.
